LAST WEEK AROUND THE CANAL COTTAGE …

2021-11-28

Florida Blues (in late November!) including my nemesis bird, the Kingfisher.  We see these birds fairly often, but  they usually  fly away as soon as I even think "camera".   So I'll take their picture any way I can, even this one, a too-far away shot through the car window.

The only other living creature I got a picture of last week.  (Well, two pictures — one after he had enough posing).  We stopped in the road to let this guy cross to a runoff canal beside the road.

Here are some of my better efforts:

2021-11-282

We made a photo gallery wall in the Canal Cottage from pictures I've taken over several years.    The idea was Geoff's and the framed pictures were a gift from him and Lisa.

Bill hung them (I told him we should never move, because this wall is perfect.)   It's really just one long wall with the burrowing owl in the center.   I couldn't get back far enough to get the whole wall in one shot.

If they look the least bit crooked, it is because of the pictures I took of the wall.  They really do look perfect in real life.

Grateful for the memories and hopeful (almost certain) that we will get some more good birding opportunities this season.

  5. Sallie – Sorry for the delay in commenting – I had to make an emergency visit to Ohio to visit my brother in the hospital.
If I didn’t know better, I would think that the ground was hot and the turtle did not want to touch the ground! That gallery wall is fabulous! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

  20. It’s lovely to see your photos arranged like that.
I’ve never been able to capture a kingfisher on film, ours are different from yours, though I think one of yours got blown across the ocean to the Uk in the last week or so.

  21. The turtle has a noble air.

  22. Nice to see a bird that we have here but it’s not often we see the Kingfishers.

  23. I’ve never been able to photo a kingfisher but I am thrilled if I see one in the wild, which is not very often. Your photo wall is terrific.

  30. Hello, Sallie
Great sightings of the Kingfisher and turtle. Your wall of pictures looks wonderful, so many beautiful birds. The Burrowing Owl is one of my favorites. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!

  31. A kingfisher is a beautiful bird. The gallery of bird photos must be a joy for both of you to look at. I hope you have the opportunity to photograph more birds in the future.

  32. A wonderful photo gallery! You have some great shots there! I like that you stopped for the turtle.

  33. Love your photo wall.

  34. How great to have your photos hanging on the wall. The gallery display looks great, and I know from experience that it’s quite a feat of measuring!

  35. When I taught school I had a red-eared turtle for a class pet. That was before they were considered to be dangerous for salmonella transmission. After I moved out of the classroom and into administrative positions my turtle went to live at my parent’s house with his own fenced yard and small pond. By then he was about five inches across. When they moved we found him a home at a turtle preserve. – Margy

  36. HI Sallie, I love your wall what a great gift…Im sure you are going to see lots of good birds this winter also….enjoy the week.
