Finally, we have a picture of a Florida flower we can identify. This is the COREOPSIS. A name which somehow I think sounds more like a disease than a sweet little flower!
We learned that this is Florida's official wildflower. I first read the informational sign as "official flower" and wondered why they chose this relatively unassming little plant instead of one of the many more flamboyant subtropical flowers that bloom around here. It turns out that the official Florida FLOWER is the Orange Blossom.
While the Coreopsis is only the official wildflower — just a little spot of sunshine on the ground!
