BIRDS OF THE SLOUGH

From a walk at Six Mile Cypress Slough.

Note:  Thank you to Gordon and Gail who corrected my ID in the top picture … that beautiful fellow is a green heron not a tri-colored.  I should have checked my book first!   I've fixed the caption.

These birds were kind enough to pose for the camera during our walk.

We're having slow computer issues, so I'm not even trying to say much about these birds.

BIRDS OF THE SLOUGH

Little blue heron

But who needs words?

Ibis and immat ibis

White ibis — mature and immature

They are all the usual suspects.  But I never tire of seeing them.

  3. Dearest Sallie;
Oh, how I wish to have these lovely birds live close to me!!! Your green heron is SO beautiful and yes, “who needs words”. I loved the way you arranged them with sweet collage as well.
Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

  4. Great set of birds – and I also like the signs on the next post.
The village I was born in had “Ducks Crossing” signs!

    I love that!
Yes, we have to appreciate these, no matter how many times we photograph them. They are wonderful to see!

  8. I was able to see most of these birds for the first time in Puerto Vallarta. Didn’t catch an Anhinga, that would have been fantastic but I was still very lucky!

  9. I hear you Sallie! Yes, your pictures do all the talking! 🙂

  10. Who needs words, the photos are fabulous. I have never seen a tri-coloured heron before.

  11. Hi Sallie, Great set of pics again, and I love the way you do a collage with your photos.
I think the Tricoloured Heron is a Little Green Heron, double check I may be wrong.
    Take care, Gordon.

  12. HI You are correct. The photographs say it all. Beautiful bird shots

  14. My favs are the blue heron and the great egret. What an amazing variety of birds you have down there!
    Blessings,

Love seeing the feet under the water in the first one.
    Wonderful camera captures Sallie!

  17. Nice shots, my favorite the legs underwater shot of the tri-colored.

  18. Nice birds. They really are big and beautiful.

  19. That’s an amazing variety of birds you’ve captured here. I think my favorite is the tri-colored heron.

  20. Indeed, no words needed with photos and birds such as these, Sallie. I love them all, but, the tri-colored heron is especially colorful to me and I love how you captured his feet as well.
A balmy 44° degrees today. We were all giddy with the change, and worried about flooding.

  21. I love seeing the herons and egrets. And the Anhinga and Ibis are wonderful birds too. I would love this place, awesome birds. Sallie, have a happy week ahead!

  22. I’m so glad you love to go birding!! I just adore seeing these new to me species!

  23. Wow, what a great walk. The tri colored heron is amazing looking. All of the birds are great but that one struck me dumb or something like that. I tend to mix up my expressions and metaphors too.

  24. Love these, Sallie! Looks like you were pretty darn close to that anhinga. Love that green heron in the first shot, too.

  25. I do love the heron….

  26. Oh, fabulous shots! That tricolour heron is a beauty!

  27. I think the anhingas are such great fun to watch. They can swim a long way under water and then pop up unexpectedly. You’re fortunate to have this beautiful slough in your community!

  28. Wordless is fine. The anhinga drying itself is a beautiful pose!

  29. And they do pose so well!! Beauties they are indeed!! I finally found your blog again and added it to my list for the third time????? I have no idea what the problem is, but I’ll keep an eye out! Good to have you in my list again so I don’t miss any of your great photos!! Hope your week is going well!!

  30. lovely beauties!

  31. You’re right, who needs words looking at these beautiful birds. Great photos! Having spent a little time looking at all the incredible wildlife down there, I would dearly love to come back.

  32. Beautiful birds and great photos. You are lucky to see them so close and to have them pose as well! I especially like the bird with its wings spread sitting on the stump.

  33. I love the tri-coloured heron!

  34. Great hots. Lucky you being able to get out and about. It snowed here again last night. Dianne
