(not exactly a) MEMORY of FOXES*

* (Our memories, but not my pictures.)    These are guest photos by our son Geoff, who said it was OK to  blog them.    

 

Whenever we visit Geoff and Lisa we always look forward to watching the fox den in the vacant lot next-door to their home. 

From the  picture window or the side yard,  we have watched the fox family  – two adults and (in different years) different numbers of kits.    But I have never been able to get good pictures.

So we were delighted to get these pictures (taken early last month) by e-mail.   Geoff says that they are now seeing a litter of six emerging from the den.

Bittersweet memories, because the lot (which has been vacant for as long as  G&L have lived there) is now slated for development.  There's a nearby greenbelt where we've also seen foxes,  so this den will probably relocate somewhere there.   I hope.

    Foxes are amazing animals. It’s sad that we (humans have no problem destroying their habitat. I hope they don’t build there. I have a question. What does the fox say?

    /so cute I hope they can find a new home its hard for animals I know…the trees near me were recently logged so I think that’s why I now have raccoon problems!

    How adorable is that little guy!
    I’ve probably only seen a fox a couple of times in my life. I would love to be able to watch them. Hope he’ll share some photos of the little ones.
    So sad that development will take their habitat.

    Hey! My photos got published! I’m famous.
    The mom has been coming out with the kits just at dusk. I’ve got a few photos, but none are too good — the little ones move around a lot, and it’s too dark to get a good shot.
    She may have moved to her other den already, too, since we didn’t see her at all last two evenings (she did that a few years ago).
    It’s a lot of fun to be able to get photos like this from a blind as comfortable as my dining room.

    OMGosh, I love foxes!! I guess because they remind me of dogs. These photos are awesome!! How fun to live next door and be able to photograph them as often as you can. So sad that the lot will be developed soon. 🙁 More and more habitat is being taken away.

    I love these shots of the beautiful foxes. There was a fox den in the crawl space under my house, or that’s my guess based on the fox family coming to my deck to drink out of the bird baths this summer. I didn’t see them during the winter.
