AT THE EAGLE PASTURE again

Here are a couple of the other residents of the pasture where the local eagles live in their scrub pine.

Sometimes there are as many as eight or ten horses.

They belong to the family who has installed the eagle cam.   I always park on the end of the church lot (on the other side of the pasture) and as far away from the nest as possible.  Both because I think it's better for the eagles and because its fun to watch the horses too.

Ozzie and Harriet weren't at home (really this time — they weren't anywhere in sight.)  E-6 was practicing his wing stretches and occasionally hopping up and down for fun and strength  building.

Branching should take place any day now (flying out of the nest to the nearest branch and back.)   On this day, he must have had a good meal recently because he wasn't making any noises at all.  And because probably he is getting more used to being on his own.

I was in the car getting ready to leave (and noticing the shadow patterns on the pasture fence) when a flock of cattle egrets flew down.

Maybe they should be renamed — horse egrets?  In any case their mission was the same as it is when they land in cattle pastures.

  13. Great photos of the eagles. I am not really a horse person but they are very photogenic. The first time I noticed cattle egrets is when I moved to the Texas Gulf Coast. I thought they were hilarious.

Great shots! I read today that an injured eagle was found and taken to the CROW rehab place near there. They think it’s Ozzie. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

  17. Love the horses !!

  19. It must be great to have Bald Eagles nesting nearby and just take a trip out at anytime to watch them. It looks a safe enough place for them to nest with good people to watch over them. A Nice bonus with the Cattle Egrets.n

  20. Lovely photos! The horses are wonderful.

  21. What a great opportunity to observe the eagles.

  22. The horses are as beautiful to watch as the eagles. Soon you’ll be watching that one branch and then fledge.

E-6 looks content to stay home alone. I hope you post again and again until he goes out on his own.
I laughed as soon as I read ‘cattle’ egret! Glad you saw the humor in that as well.
    Happy St. Patrick’s Day Sallie!
