Happy Fourth of July!

 

We are still in transition mode, getting "Oregonized' here in Eugene.   The collection below is a transition too – birds seen toward the end of our stay in Florida and on our trip across our beautiful country.

 

  LEFTOVERS

 

 Top:  Warbler Western Kingbird seen at a rest stop just into Colorado; and Mother and baby coot in the reeds on the Malheur (Eastern Oregon)

Bottom row:  Great blue heron on my last walk around our resort in Florida; Magpie in Eastern Oregon; Redheaded woodpecker in Florida on one of the last days.

                     (Thank you to  commenters David G and Sondra for identifying my Western Kingbird — a first for me and one I hope to recognize if I'm lucky enough to see it again.)

    Below are a couple of fun signs seen in Breckenridge when we spent a weekend there with our Colorado kids.

On the left a chalkboard for people to write their thoughts about being up high in the mountains; maybe home was too hot for them!  On the right — Only in Colorado?  Lots of altitude there –I can see why people from Oklahoma (or Florida) might need a hit of Oxygen (although we managed fine without any extra), but IV-hydration???

    Dearest Sallie; Oh, Wonderful and Cute birds collection from your gorgeous trip.　Blue heron is only familiar bird for me but we can see coot in our city park’s lake; I enjoyed the mother and the baby scene♬♬♬
    I am happy you were OK with the high altitude; oh,IV-hydration…(I could guess it’s a medicinal thing 🙂

    Sounds like you had a wonderful and exciting time across the country. There is nothing better than what you did. What an opportunity to see our country. When I travel, I always marvel at how big our country is and how unique it is from the rest of the world. Although I love it all, I am glad that I live here in beautiful Arizona. So much to see! Love your post and hope you get settled in without forgetting anything:)

    What a wonderful compilation, Sallie. Of course, I always love seeing the birds you meet along the road, and glad you identified the coot, which is what I was seeing up here in spring.
    Breckinridge is a great town. I love the humor in the signs and have gotten headaches at that altitude. The girls still l love to tease me about the 1/2 glass of beer and how funny I was when we were in Colorado. haha

    Those Rocky Mountain scenes are gorgeous. I think I would need a bit of oxygen in Colorado too. I went to the Sierra Nevada and was feeling dizzy (and Colorado is higher).

    I think the hydration is needed by those used to more humid climates. Connie just returned from a week in Utah, via LV and Denver. She says the airports were horrible, especially Denver. Bill looks a bit rough so they frisked and xrayed him a lot.

    Just beautiful, Sallie. I recently took a photo of what looks like a heron hiding high up in the tree tops. Whatever it is the whole group of them made a LOT of crazy noises.

    May I point out respectfully, Sallie, that the bird you describe as a warbler at rest is, in fact, a Western Kingbird. Great picture though!

    The mountain streams go well with my current read – Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. In the book, the author talks about streams quite a bit and your visual completes the picture.

    Thanks for sharing these, Sallie. I love the birds…especially mama coot and kid coot! And the collage is beautiful. We don’t see very many woodpeckers here…don’t know why. See a lot of cardinals, though. Keep trekking and having fun!

    I know it sounds weird…but after the month I spent in the PNW last yr I MISS IT! I feel the need to come back and see every single inch! Colorado is also a State one must see from cover to cover! Still so much to see there for me. Happy 4th!
