There's no better way to celebrate October than a walk around Kirk Pond …
… especially if you have great company as you walk.
Our daughter and I try to get out and around Kirk Pond and across Fern Ridge Dam at least once each Autumn. This year we happily had a three-generation walk when our grown-up granddaughter had a rare morning off and was able to join her mom and me. The two younger generations each brought their dogs along. Cali and Parker loved the walk and (Cali especially) their splash time.
Good company and outdoor exercise were the purposes for this walk, but we did see a few birds. My favorite sightings were Western Grebes. Those are the birds in the white frames. Only the two photos on the right were taken on this walk. The other two birds (top left and bottom right) are pie-billed grebes. All three non-current pictures were also taken on this same Lake though. It's the Lake where we used to stay in our RV whenever we came to visit our family (while we were traveling full-time).
The very cool thing about grebes, which are water birds but not ducks, is that both parents care for their young and either of them might carry a baby on their back as they swim. If your eyes are very good, you can see that in some of the above pictures.
Time goes quickly when you are in good company and our three+ mile walk was over all too soon. But even the street on the way to our daughter and son-in-law's home is pretty (especially this time of year).
