SUMMER PHOTO RAMBLE

This week's post is a bit of a ramble, with pictures from various walks over the last few weeks.   We are leaving Saturday morning on a camping trip, so I'm putting the post together earlier than usual.  I'll take my I-Pad, but not the laptop.   I can do almost everything from the tablet, EXCEPT for writing a blog.  Somehow, I have to be sitting at the desk for that.

Flowers family july 2018

This bouquet is courtesy of our family.  They have the talent and did the work; I just took the pictures.  The rose-of-Sharon bush is  from our daughter and son-in-law's yard (and the plant came from his grandmother).  The other flowers are from their son and daughter-in-law's first-ever garden at the home they bought last year (that's our oldest grandson and his wife).

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers to "steal" (only with photos).   I loved the  pure white one, a color you don't see often.

Welcoming sign seen in many yards as we walk around the city.   The signs are being sold as a benefit for the Centro Latino community organization.

Another  of the many murals being created in a big push by the City to beautify the downtown area.  I don't exactly love this one,  but it is colorful — and it was fun to watch the artists at work on the lift truck.    (It was a hot day too — probably not the most pleasant working conditions up there.)

Here's an artist the City hired for a smaller gig.  She was painting a street piano — it will remain on the sidewalk until the rainy season starts.  Since I watched her work, I've heard a few "concerts" by passers-by as this piano is placed on a block I walk often, near the Library, city bus terminal, and grocery store.

Nothing but blue sky over the back of Skinner Butte — and some colorful buildings underneath it.

  1. Love the flowers! How interesting to see artists at work. Pretty sky photo
    Have a wonderful day!

  2. Thank you for your kinds words about the loss of my dog.

  3. Good shots.

  4. A street piano! How wonderful, all least, as you say, until it rains. It is always interesting to see what comes from your walks.
As to the bouquet of flowers! Lovely, Sallie, and made my day.

  5. What is that fish doing to that bird is what I want to know. I think the best part of this could be watching the artists create. Rainy season? Season? Love the orange garage beneath the butte. I think here the critters would be all over the piano, crane concerto anyone? And up the hill and ’round the corner it would be full of bullet holes in a matter of days. You’re a far cry from the preschoolers in rush hour traffic, shootings and burglaries which are a whole other kind of sign in my neighborhood or I guess my neighborhood adjacent.
I’m jealous of your camping trip, I’ve been thinking how peaceful that would be at night with the smell of the campfire burning.
Same for me with the iPad, it never worked right I think because of no good WP or Blogger apps or I’d use it to blog.

  6. Magical Mystical Teacher

Love the murals and the bright blue sky!

  7. I love the idea of a street piano and a little impromptu concert! Looks like your city is doing a great job with all the upgrades and making everyone feel welcome.

  8. Your photos give a great summer feeling!

  9. The murals, good or bad, must make the town colorful and memorable. That’s always the way I like things.

  10. Great shots.

  11. The sign is interesting. Our city Human Rights Commission gives away similar signs and they have popped up all over town.

  12. I love all of the flowers and of course the murals which will really brighten up the downtown. I hope you have a good camping trip!

  13. Beautiful murals and flowers. Hope you have lots of fun while you camp and take lots of photos.

  14. WednesdayAroundTheWorld – it’s always a pleasure.

  15. I am STILL in love with this idea of the pianos outside – kudos to whoever came up with that idea. Maybe once the weather gets cooler I will actually sit down at my piano and crank out some tunes (we’ve been separated for a few years). Lovely smorgasbord of pictures in this post!

  16. the flowers are so pretty sallie, my rose of sharon grows like and spreads like a weed, but the blooms are beautiful!!
i adore murals, such a wonderful addition of color to an otherwise drab area!!

  17. Great pictures, Sallie – the piano caught my eye. Hope you had fun camping, – we are so smokey here, from wildfires, – camping is more or less frowned upon, unfortunately.

What an interesting post! The lilac hibiscus is divine. I am personally not so fond of murals but they seem to appear everywhere. In the center of Helsinki there are a lot of street musicians, but never heard of a ‘free’ piano 🙂 That welcome sign is a great idea! Such signs would be needed here too because some groups are very against immigrants.
I wish you a great camping trip.

  19. Beautiful flowers!
The welcome sign is also seen here, though it uses French instead of Spanish.

  20. A very nice summer ramble. Pretty collage. Have fun on your camping trip!

  21. A lovely variety of summer photos. Love the flowers (your family have the green thumb I wish I had), the mural, the piano art, and the sign. You have a great eye for not only taking photos, but sharing such interesting ones. Always love coming here, thanks Sallie 🙂

  22. I like the flowers, but I like the sign even more.
    Cheers – Stewart M – Melbourne

  23. I didn’t know that the flowers I like are called hydrangeas. Plus, white ones are my favourite! Those murals seem so exceptional!

  24. Beautiful flowers always brighten up my day! My hydrangeas died due to the extremely hot weather and lack of care. I like the painting on the piano!

  25. Excellent images! We have the neighbors signs here in Virginia too.

  26. Wonderful flowers and murals – and I just love that sign!

  27. It looks like a beautiful summer.

  28. This is great.

  29. I love the mural. Happy camping!

  30. Love the flowers you share. And it is great to be able to work with those family brought up 🙂
    Cool murals!
Btw. I think you take better shots then you give yourself credit for 🙂 You know how to chose best angle and light 🙂

  31. Love the painted piano! Many thanks for linking to All Seasons -sorry the link didn’t pan out – if you like you can try again! You mentioned you were both in education fields? Oh, that is why we have so much in common! Once you love learning, you never lose that!
Thank you so much for your concern about the fires. After my post last week, some bloggers told me about the South Calif. fires I didn’t even know about! You could say “California is burning” – hopefully they won’t last too long. Last night I saw for the first time in two weeks a blue patch of sky (without smoke) – so excite, I took a pic:)
    Have a marvelous week, Sallie!

  32. A fun post with the flowers, murals, and public piano. You are making me want to move there.

  33. Beautiful family flowers. At my son’s wedding in June, the aisle was decorated with white hydrangeas and i have a couple of them still in pots. Will plant them in the garden soon and pray they don’t die on me. I think that sign is one we should all display. Your town looks full of character and colour. Enjoy your camping trip.

  34. Your family has grown some beautiful flowers. I love hydrangeas, too, and they last so long in the garden. The mural is interesting and brightly coloured. I hope you’re enjoying your camping trip. There’s not much chance of rain!

  35. I love the mural, it goes so perfectly with the dazzling blue sky.
The lacy white hydrangea is lovely. Enjoy the camping Sallie…Happy Mosaic Monday!

  36. Colorful and creative photos! Beautiful florals!

  37. Such a cool mural!

  38. Your family gardeners have done a wonderful job! Beautiful blooms. I love murals. I think it takes a special talent. Have a fun filled week!

  39. Hello, Sallie! Beautiful flowers. I love hydrangeas. The murals are great, I like the piano. It looks like a colorful and pretty place to visit. Enjoy your day and new week ahead! PS, thanks for visiting my blog.

  40. I love that the city is having artists paint murals. It really does “beautify” the city and provides an interesting backdrop for everyday life. Lovely collection of flowers too!

  41. The murals are just beautiful and I love that bright blue sky! Beauty everywhere you look! We had some rain overnight so everything is so clean and fresh this morning…and the grass so green! Hugs from Florida!

  42. Camping sounds like fun, Sallie … although I’ve been wishing for rain, I hope it holds off for you where you’re going. The painted piano is quite a showpiece. I love hearing outdoor music when I’m out and about. A good melodic tune brings something wonderful to the atmosphere. Also like the signage but it’s a little odd we have to spell out the welcomes nowadays because it’s in doubt.

  43. Morning Sallie, not sure why but most of your photos aren’t showing for me, I can see the piano painting mosaic though, what a fun thing to do.
Happy Mosaic Monday, have a great trip!

  44. Very interesting places to walk and the flowers are beautiful – especially the white hydrangeas – enjoy your camping trip!

  45. Crazy artists at beautiful painting, I love it.

  46. Beautiful!!!
    Have a nice Mosaic Monday
    much love…

  47. Beautiful flower photos, Sallie! I like when communities welcome all people and also work together to beautify an area.
Denver also has painted pianos out for all to play on their pedestrian mall on 16th Street. It’s nice to hear them being played.
    Enjoy your camping trip!

  48. Your downtown looks so colourful. I rather like the fishy mural. Not to sure about a piano that anyone can have a go at – not too many musicians around here but lots who might think they are! Enjoy your camping trip Sallies, and no, I can’t blog from a tablet either.

  49. Rose of Sharon! I’d love to have that growing in our yard. I like how the colors pop in your flower collage, Sallie. If we ever were to be city dwellers again, I’d want to live in a city like Eugene.

  50. Hydrangeas are one of my favourites, it’ll be nice when ours are blooming here.
