When we took our boat down the channel here on Fern Ridge Lake this past summer, it was easy to forget exactly where we were.  It's a day-dreamy kind of thing to do anyway and sometimes it reminded us a lot of when we were out on the water last Winter in Florida.  There really are some similarities.    

And a lot of differences.

And here is one of the differences:  We could tie our boat up to the "alligator" in the bottom picture.  Not advised for the one on the top.

    Hi Sallie…
    Great post, my friend…thank you so much for sharing it with us for Sunday Favorites this week! I had to really look close at the second photo…I thought it was an alligator! Hehe! I spoke to my mom earlier this week…she lives in south Texas. They recently had to call Fish and Game because a huge alligator was causing problems in their lake (Lake Corpus Christi). When the game warden got there…he took photos. That alligator measured 28′ long…can you believe that? And…even more strange was…this alligator had a full grown buck in it’s mouth that he had killed! I would have never believed it unless I had seen the photos with my own eyes! So scary!

    Hi JOe — Don’t stay away from Florida or Texas because of the Alligators. You kind of have to look for them. I think you could play golf most of the time without competing with them ;>

    I think I will take the Oregon canal. Sometimes when I have golfed in the south there are signs warning of alligators

    Shayla, they are usually pretty sleepy and don’t pay us any attention — except for one time in Texas whewn we tried to take pictures of a mother one with babies and she got mad. There are some pictures of that on this post:

    Wow, that’s cool that you got so close to an alligator. I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in the same area as a big lizard like that… I’m from Canada; we’re terrified of gators because most of use have never seen one outside of TV and the zoo.

    You had me going on that one! It wasn’t until I put my glasses on that I realized the bottom one was a tree gator.

    I think I would prefer boating without the alligator in he top photo, I prefer the faux alligator.
