In this part of the country we miss those flowers that we think of as heralding Spring. Daffodils and tulips and shrinking violets shyly peeking up from clumps of grass just don't make their appearance here in this lush semi-tropical climate.
I don't know whether this Chinese Hibiscus grows everywhere in this area or is unique to the grounds of the Edison Estates, where we saw it. (The Edisons collected exotic plant species for their tropical gardens.)
In any case, I think this lush, almost overblown beauty perfectly signifies what Spring is like in Fort Myers.
