BOATING TO THE THEATER

Last week we had tickets for a Thursday night performance at the Florida Rep Theater in downtown Fort Myers.    We decided to go by water.

Usually we just boat to lunch.  Boating to the theater was a new experience.

We stayed overnight at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin.   I have joked before  that the Yacht Basin lets us in even though we definitely don't have a yacht.   It is actually the City of Fort Myers facility  and the  people are as nice as can be.  We love staying here or just tying  up to go to lunch in one of the downtown restaurants.

Maybe the dockmaster thought  we were a yacht this time though, because  here is where he put us for the night.  That next door neighbor's dinghy is bigger than our boat!

We could see the theater  from our dock — it's the low blue building across the other boat docks.  It was only about a two-block walk.

We went to see Arsenic and Old Lace — an oldie but a goodie!  The Theater Company was very proud to have received an outstanding review from the Wall Street Journal.

Does the Wall Street Journal usually review plays?  Out-of-town plays?  We don't know because we don't  read the Wall Street Journal.  I bet the people on that yacht docked next to us would have known.  I should have asked them!

    Great Way to go to the theater, isn’t it♡♡♡ I first learned the word “dinghy” p;) Ideal way of spend a day; wish I could have join you and enjoy the “Arsenic and Old Lace”, no idea about that oldie (you call) but may be enjoyable way to hear English☆☆☆
    PS> So sorry for my absence for a while again. As yeaster was my father’s 89th birthday, I have visited my father’s empty house and grave. I offered flower at both places. I’m sure he is happy to see me on his birthday(^_^)

    That would be fun going to the theatre by boat. It is dwarfed by your neighbour’s boat though.You have reminded me that i haven’t been to the theatre for ages. used to afford a yearly subscription when I was working but gave that up when i retired sadly.

    Got any room for me??? I am way tired of this winter. It is snowing again. Palm Beach was such a nice LITTLE town (back then there were no stop lights) to grow up in. I will gladly take Fort Myers. Loved your going by boat to Arsenic and Old Lace. That is my favorite movie. The slips look like the ones on Lake Worth. Nice little slots for big and little boats. Loved your post.

    First off, the experience of going to the theatre is amazing in itself, but getting there by boat, just adds so much more drama to the scene!

    I’ve been to the top of Mt. St. Helens – it was so misty I could not even see the end of my own nose! But the road stopped, so it must have been the top!

    “Boating to the theater” – how cosmopolitan that sounds, and to have a berth next to such a big boat, Sallie. How fun. Arsenic and Old Lace is such a wonderful play that has stood the test of time. I’m smiling just thinking about your fun.

    Life aboard a boat has on occasion had an appeal for me. Today, not so much, but I sure wouldn’t mind tooling around the Ft. Myers area, taking in a play and munching down at the local restaurants. You are fortunate. No snow to worry about, either.
    I’d guess that the WSJ did an article because many of its writers and patrons have moved south for the winter! 🙂
