BLUE HERONS — LITTLE and GREAT

Little Blue posed  for us near Lake Okeechobee.

Great Blue didn't even know he was getting his picture taken…

…  because he was this far away.   He's a trailer park heron!  Of all the beautiful spots where a Great Blue could hang out, I wondered why he would pick this backwater.  There must be lots of fish in there as well as trash.

Sometimes, slowing down with your camera means finding picture ops in the most unlikely places.

One more shot of the Little Blue after he turned himself around.

  1. Great photos. I hope the heron doesn’t pick up any trash with his fish….. Michelle

  2. herons and egrets, always nice to see them 🙂

  3. You never know where opportunity will present itself. That’s why I always have my camera. Wonderful captures!

  4. These are fantastic shots, Sallie. I love the blue (and little blue) herons.

  5. I so love them. Thank you for sharing them.

  6. beautiful images Sallie. I really like that third one, maybe because of the boat….its neat.

  7. Oh wow, I’ve never seen a blue heron before.

  8. Awesome shots, Sallie! Love the blue color of the heron. And the photo edits accentuates it even more:) Surprised that there no spring flowers in Flor. yet – I guess there are still differences in the weather.

  9. The Little Blue is gorgeous! I love his dark grey color! Really nice far-away shot brought in!

  10. Nice photos. Some people are such pigs. Why would you throw trash in a watering hole like this? Idiots.

  11. This makes me miss the herons we used to see almost daily when we lived in Washington state. You have a wonderful camera eye, Sallie!

  12. Beautiful ! The only heron in my life I have ever seen was on a lake in a park nearby and my friend had to tell me what it was !

  13. How cool to find them there. Terrific captures!

  14. I just love herons! They’re so prehistoric looking. Ours should be coming back north soon and I always get excited when I see the first one. Nice photos!

  15. They are hard to capture. They’re quite beautiful birds!

  16. They are both wonderful birds. Great captures.

  17. Christian

    Elegant birds.

  18. i am forever chasing them and don’t usually see them here at the shore over winter. one flew right in front of my lens the other day and i was so excited!!
    beautiful captures!!!!

  19. Such a graceful and beautiful bird!

  20. Beautiful shot of the Little Blue!!! I also wonder why some birds pick the sketchiest of places to do their living. I’ll say to myself, “Don’t they know there’s a fabulous park a mile away?” LOL

  21. These are lovely heron shots.

  22. Our camera always “talk” better than us.

  23. These are just charming images and very pretty too. I loved seeing so many Herons and Egrets among others last week~

Dearest Sallie; Wow, wonderful photographs of Blue Herons☆☆☆ I remember I’ve seen one and posted once before but not this beautiful capture 🙂 Got the meaning of “backwater”(^_^)v

  26. Love the little blue heron they are graceful.

  27. Your photos are beautiful, Sallie, and you are doing such great editing and processing. Inspiring….

  28. Wonderful bird shots.

  29. Nice photos, Sallie! That blue heron was on the hunt for a meal.

  30. I just love herons. They are such unlikely looking birds on the ground.

  31. The lucky folks at that trailer park get to watch the herons closer up. It is a good idea to slow down with the camera, and life, to see what’s around. These are great shots.

  32. Beautiful shots!

  33. You probably know that the Great Blue Heron is the bird representative of the city of Portland. So, I can’t help but be really impressed with your photographs. As somebody said above, they are such elegant creatures. At our Japanese Garden here in town, the koi are such monsters (meaning HUGE in size), that no Heron would dare take one on! I’d hate to see them try. Once we had a great blue land on our roof and pose there for the better part of a day. What a gift that was….

  34. Love your photos of the little blue heron! I always enjoy seeing heron, but my hubby isn’t too fond of them because of their fondness for our koi (fortunately our koi are very, very smart and know how to hide from them) 🙂
    Blessings, Aimee

  36. Herons are the best stalkers!!

  39. Great photos of both blue Herons. I don’t think I have seen them pictured like that before – great for comparisons.

  40. I love these heron shots. They are such elegant birds.

  41. They are so beautiful. If only they don’t move as much when I’m taking their picture. Have a lovely week.

  42. Oh, they are SO beautiful and such terrific captures!! Hope all is well in your world today and that you have a great week!! Enjoy!!

  43. Beautiful photos especially that last one.

  44. Stunning-I especially love the shot of the Great Blue. How nice to be so close to nature!

  45. i’m so jealous on your little blue!!! would love to see one someday (and a reddish egret, and a tri-color heron, and…)

  46. I agree you never know when you are going to get a good shot, and you got super photos. I always love my trips down to Florida. You have some amazing birds down there and I am still delving into my archives. They bring back lovely memories as do these. Thanks Sallie, have a great day 🙂
