CAPE HAZE – Palm Island Marina

P1010228

After our overnight stay on Sanibel (here), we set out by boat to Cape Haze, a boat trip of about four hours.

P1010292

We docked at Palm Island Marina.    These are  miscellaneous shots from around the Marina .  There are some SIGNS, some FENCES (and railings –do they count?) , and some more beautiful blue Florida SKY.

The little sign on the gate into this house says "CAY PAZE" ,  a cool play on words which made me think I would like to meet the homeowners.

Palm Island is a Clean Marina.   It is clean and neat, but what this really means is they take fuel spills very seriously, and avoid them with overflow catchers, drip catchers etc.  (Boat owners pump their own gas at Florida marinas.)

We took this Water Taxi to Palm Island itself —  there is a good restaurant there, open to the public (if they come by boat … this is a real island, with no road access).  And there is a private beach, which we could use as overnight guests of the Marina.   (Beach scenes to come in another post.)

I liked the palm frond theme on this home that we boated past on our way into  the Marina.  It's built on stilts as many homes on low-lying places in hurricane country are.

Thank you to Lesley for SIGNS SIGNS,  Theresa for GOOD FENCES, and Yogi, Sylvia, and Sandy for SKYWATCH FRIDAY.

  1. Looks like a great place to stay other than for the fact that I don’t see any wildlife at all anywhere. There is not even a bird in the sky.

  2. Such a lovely spot…..the greenery is so beautiful!!

  3. Looks like a beautiful spot. I like the idea of catching a water taxi!!

  4. What a wonderful boat trip and sights along the way! Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. this looks like my sort of place. It is cold here this afternoon and the thought of palms and beaches and a boat ride is really bringing me wonderful summer memories.
Happy travels, enjoy summer, and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.

  6. Wonderful set of images from the island.

  7. Lovely.

  8. such pretty scenery in your neck of the woods.
in regard to your comment on my “fence” post. There is an electric line in images #6. :>)
    Thanks Sallie.

  9. What a beautiful area. I too enjoyed the cay-paze. Love quirky little language play. So fun. And the palm fronds railing on that house. So many interesting things here. A place far from Wisconsin, though there are 15,000 lakes here with boats in the summertime. What fun to be on that boat in your photo.

  10. Oh, it does look like a delightful place and I do love the water taxi — used those where I was in Mexico a number of years ago!! So, thanks for stirring up some great old memories!! I know you’re having a great time and that’s the best of all!! Enjoy!!

  11. hat is such a unique and interesting place. I was not aware of it. We stayed on Sanibel Island the week after Easter.

  12. Lovely pictures! The water taxi sounds like fun.

  13. Continue to enjoy this lovely place. Wish I could join you on a tour.

  14. Awesome a real island no roads…how cool! Do you sleep on your boat while island hopping?

  15. oh very plush. Clean. Great blog.

  16. Lovely, exotic and lush!

  17. Looks like a neat place to visit!

  18. Oops…I mean IMHO. I think. Maybe. I M G O N G C R A Z.

  19. Well, you got me back to enjoy your beautiful photos once again. But what does IHMO mean?

  20. A water taxi – sound so tropical and fun! You sure have a knack of choosing great outings! Yeah, I would like to meet the owners too:)
About your comment about my no-blue-green-meme it was one of the reasons I opted out – people would end up posting trees and skies every week! I’ll keep looking for a better subject:):)

  21. Beautiful scenery in that first shot. I also like the palm frond railing on that house.

  22. Lovely photos and great environment!

  23. It sure makes me want to visit that part of the state. I’ve heard so much about it but never been. Love that you traveled by boat! Enjoy your week sweet friend. Hugs, Diane

  24. WOW! that palm frond fence in the last shots is really lovely.

  25. Ah, I love this. Just back from Hawaii and we are counting our nickels and dimes for another trip to the Gulf Coast before the summer is out.

  26. Rum Bay sounds inviting, especially a water taxi there and a water taxi back after a nice meal and a few rum and coke. there’s nothing quite like living the island life wherever it is in the world.
“Cape Haze” because of all that sunshine and heat haze I guess? If only.

  27. Hi Sallie, looks like a fun time. The water taxi and dinner on the island sounds great. I am happy to see the marina is serious about clean water and fuel spills. Enjoy your day!

  28. orchid

Dearest Sallie; Beautiful landscape of Cape Haze and interesting to see the ‘water taxi’. What is more, restaurant with no road access is unbelievable for me p:-) Great to read about the ‘overflow catcher’ which I’ve never seen, but cleanness must come first♪
Well, movie called ‘Afrcan Queen’ in your friend’s comment interest me very much and checked about the story 🙂
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear Japanese friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

  29. A wonderful place to relax-and plenty to photograph too. I love small islands. I think you could spend the whole summer enjoying new spots in Florida :).

  30. Beautiful place ! That I call enjoying retirement !

  31. “Cay Paze” I’d like to meet them too. Good to see a ‘clean’ minded marina. Better to spill the rum than fuel. Seeing homes and businesses from the water is different, yet like landscaped front yards but along the shore. Nice journey.

  32. It looks so very pleasant! Enjoy.

  33. Lovely place for a vacation. Love the house on stilts, we have such houses in Singapore too.

  34. The Rum Bay Water Taxi made me think of the boat in the classic movie African Queen starring Humprey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn … maybe because Bogart was a riverboat captain who drank a lot of liquor that probably included rum. 🙂

  35. Oh, this looks so nice, Sallie. Love these. 🙂

  36. I feel like a holiday in the marina now, but it is winter here.

  37. It looks very pretty. But I’m not sure I’d want to live somewhere my house needs stilts!

  38. That is a beautiful place. I like the palm frond theme on that home too.

  39. I had to say “Cay Paze” aloud in order to get it; then I loved it!
I applaud the residents here in keeping their “paradise” clean.

  40. Is there a Rum Bay? Lovely shots of the marina.
    My SIGNS, SIGNS

  41. I looked at your past posts. I enjoyed the post on Sanibel Island as our daughter and family who drove from Nashville to Key West stopped there, but I had not seen pictures yet. I enjoyed looking at your Royal Poinciana tree pictures – such a wonderful tree! By evening we were usually pretty tired, so I did not catch the sunset often while in the Keys – or we were in a restaurant…

  42. Great photos!
I especially like the first and the last.

  43. What great photos for all those parties. Wonderful.

  44. What a great looking area.

  45. I’ve never been here – partly because we don’t have a boat, but I don’t recall ever hearing about it before. It looks pleasant and quaint and quiet and like a very nice place to relax.

  46. neat little gate and clever signage, too. 🙂

  47. A lovely place!

  48. This looks like a really nice place, Sallie!

  49. I like the looks of this place. Nice and clean, as you said. And just generally very orderly. 🙂
