THE JOY OF SHORE BIRDS

Even though I have a tough time identifying them, watching shore birds always make me happy.   I had a huge smile on my face the whole time we were at Bunche Beach last week, because we saw so many. And also a puzzled expression because there were so many different kinds of birds and nobody there to answer questions.  (I only saw two other people that cool morning and they were looking for shells.)

I think that's another of the Willets that I showed last time, but I am not sure of the little guy.    I like the way the different shore birds seem to get along sharing the same space — there's a lot of difference in their sizes as this picture shows.

Based on an ID a birder gave me when we were at another beach once,  I think this is a Marbled Godwit.

Lots of good stuff to eat under those rocks.  And also I wanted to include these pictures because it's a little bit of color on what was quite a monochrome day at the beach.  And of course I almost can't do a bird post without one or two "bottoms–up" pictures.

I still can't ID him.

  9. Lovely birds!

  10. Great shorebird photos. I think you are right on with the Willet and the Marbled Godwits. The small bird in the first photo I think is a Sanderling. The small bird in the last photo is different…it’s a Plover. Not entirely sure which one, but definitely not a Snowy.

  11. What a blissful way to spend your time….these are fabulous captures!
