ODDITIES FROM THE BEACH TRIP

This is a flashback post featuring some oddities and ironies from our trip to the beach a couple of weeks ago .

Shallow waters are a hazard around here.  We saw the boat below as we traveled (fortunately in deeper waters)….

...   We came home a different way, so I'm not sure if anyone was ever able to get this boat upright and under sail again.  I hope so.

When walking on the beach one morning I noticed a temporary outdoor wedding chapel being  set up in front of one of the cute little rental cottages.    The ceremony  was underway when I came back on the way 'home'  …  I probably have a strange sense of humor, but I thought  it was funny that the wedding was taking place right in front of the Emergency Call sign.   (In case anyone wants to back out call 9-1-1?)

I find it odd and ironic when people pay good money to stay in hotels like this one  – with their patio and pool and every balcony carefully fenced for privacy from people walking on the beach.   Unfortunately for them,  they aren't able to enjoy the ocean from their fenced in "people zoos" (which is what they look like to me).  When I downloaded the picture,  I noticed that the man standing at the right side of the picture is actually taking a picture through the "bars".  (I didn't get that close.)

Here's the view for those of us who weren't behind bars.

And here's  a bonus spectacular beach sunset that I didn't show in my earlier beach posts.

(I just can't stop taking sunset pictures when we're at the beach.)

  1. Great sunset. Have a safe journey home, Sallie. We’ll all look forward to reconnecting soon.

  2. Praying God is with you and goes before you on your trip across the U.S!

  3. I really enjoyed the photos and humor! Made my day! Loved the emergency sign!!

  4. I hope that you are having a wonderful time on your trip 🙂

  5. Beautiful sunset! I think that it does not matter how many sunset pictures one takes, they are always a little bit different and so beautiful.

  6. oh how lovely having a wedding on the beach, if I was ever going to get married again I’d like to do the same 🙂

  7. Amazing sunset shot on the beach. I hope that boat is set right.

  8. I love the sunset- just beautiful and so peaceful. That hotel is indeed strange…I don’t think I have ever seen one so blocked off like that! Do they have peeping tom issues? How weird!

  9. There are people zoos everywhere, which are either intentionally or unintentionally built.
They are our scene, we too are theirs.

  10. That sunset picture is lovely. I love sunrises or sunsets by the beach — these are things to die for in one’s life; not money or fame. Actually I don’t like these hotels on beaches — they completely destroy the beauty of beaches.
Huh! I didn’t realize that boats gets upside down in shallow water. That’s a lovely boat; I hope it got rescued.
You have a good sense of humor :-)..lol..that’s funny wedding in front of 911.
    Have a good weekend.

  11. Debbie

Such a gorgeous beach and sunset, it is my very most favorite place to spend time!
Those poor people in that boat, I wonder if it could be up righted and salvaged, it looks like a lovely boat! Happy weekend to you sallie!!!!

  12. beautiful sunset. I wouldn’t want to stay in that hotel!

  13. You are blessed with your cottage and boat and gorgeous photography ~
Happy Weekend to you ~ ^_^

  14. Great thoughts and photos!

  15. Those people cages look kind of awkward. At least it looks like they have a walkway to get out.

  16. Interesting post, Sallie! I hope that boat did not capsize, and I agree that hotel does not look inviting. The beach there is beautiful!

  17. What an amazing photo of the sail boat!! The sunset view is so beautiful!
    Greeting from Japan.

  18. The last two shots are stunning! I like the little wedding chapel.

  19. LOL at the emergency call sign at the wedding! Good capture.

  20. Beautiful shots. That’s hilarious (someone taking a shot of through the bars). I’d hate to capsize a boat that large. As a teen we use to accidentally on purpose capsize sunfish sailboats or come pretty darn close but the large ones would be scary and expensive to capsize.

  21. Gorgeous beach sunset!

  22. Love the call sign! I can imagine the bride and groom photoed next to it for a little wedding humor.

  23. Great post. Hope that boat was uprighted too.
I loved your sense of humor about the wedding location.
Can’t say I’d want a fenced in view of the ocean.
I liked the unfenced shot very much and the gorgeous sunset.

  24. I am so laughing so hard about the behind bars and the 911 signage. Yes, I find it so limiting to be behind those bars. They pay for a high fee and this is what they get.

  25. Gorgeous sunset at the beach. I wouldn’t want to be fenced in too!

  26. people zoos. good description. 🙂 the call 911 sign is funny.

  27. Good finds. I love walking a beach with my camera. Lots of good stuff to look at. We’ll be staying at a condo on the beach next month on the redneck riviera but we won’t be staying in the people zoo. We’ll be out on the sand.

  28. a beach wedding 🙂 That is what my daughter had just a month ago. They wed in Honolulu. In just one week My daughter wed and my granddaughter graduated. My granddaughter is now a Marine biologist.
I was not there as the Japanese tour was expensive and when I went on that one my daughter had not yet decided they would get married. Anyway, the graduation was sent live on Internet so I could see at least that one.

  29. Gotta’ watch out for those shallow waters. I’ll bet the bride and groom didn’t even notice that sign and hopefully won’t have a need to use it. That hotel looks like a prison. I’d much rather be on the beach with you, especially with that magnificent sunset.

  30. Hi Sallie-
That type of wedding chapel is new to me.
I loved the view of GE beach and the glorious sunset. I don’t partake in water sports or boating, but I do love walking along the beach.
    Super snaps!
    Have a Happy Week!!
    Peace 🙂

  31. Whoa! The sunset is so rich.
    Frankly My Dear

  32. Ah … such a wondrously empty beautiful beach, except for the wedding. That is funny about the positioning of the sign. I wish the couple well and am quite optimistic they are headed for wedded bliss.

  33. Ugly building. I much prefer the beach! The sunset is lovely. Were you concerned someone was in the sailboat?

  34. That was an interesting photo of the sailboat. Enjoyed your photos, especially the last shot. I’ve only ever been to one beach wedding. It was really nice.

  35. The hotel doesn’t really look all that inviting, does it?
And I guess it’s always a good idea to have an ’emergency plan” whatever the occasion!

  36. Never get tired of beach sunsets…don’t care for the caged look either, give me wide open spaces anytime possible!!

  37. Hee hee. People zoo.

  38. I’ll never complain about another sunset shot! It’s so wonderful to be somewhere that gives you a wide open view of it! Enjoy your remaining days in the East!

  39. That sailboat looks to be in some difficulty. The water is far too shallow, and it may flood the boat if it runs down one of the hatchways. Interesting collection of photos.

  40. I love your sense of humor! Keep it up, my friend! I don’t mean to threaten you, but remember, I know the number for 911! 🙂

  41. tom the backroads traveller

    Call the insurance company!

  42. I’d prefer one of the cottages rather than a fenced-from-the-beach hotel.

  43. Hello Sallie, I hope the owner of the boat were able to get under sail again. The beach and sunset look beautiful.
    Happy June! Enjoy your day!

  44. Indeed a spectacular sunset shot. As for people behind bars, they go with those on “exclusive” islands. As one person told me, both designed to keep the “riff raff” at bay. Must be dull!
